The pepper grinder is made to look like an antique grinder. It has a metal grinding plate in it so it can only be used for pepper. The salt grinder is the smaller one and has a ceramic grinder in it and can do salt or pepper. The wood is a birdseye maple wood from a tree that grew here in Maine.
